Sunyani, May 9, GNA – Mr Vincent Antwi-Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has performed a groundbreaking ceremony for construction work to begin on a box-culvert-bridge on the Ankrana River at Abesim Ahenfoasieye.
The MCE also cut the sod for the pavement of a 100-metre road covering 5,500 metre-cube level stretching from the Sunyani Daily Market (MasomMasom Market) to the Sunyani Chiraa Station.
Mr Antwi-Agyei explained that the construction works on the two projects, costing GHC 2,297,525.82 was in line with the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), being funded by the World Bank.
Speaking at separate ceremonies held at Abesim and Sunyani, Mr Antwi-Agyei said the projects were expected to be completed within six months. The Dan-Macan Limited is executing the projects with the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) being the consultant.
On completion Mr Antwi-Agyei observed that the box culvert would alleviate the challenges that the residents of the “Ahenfoasieye” community went through in crossing the Ankrana River in the wet seasons.

“For more than 30 years, no vehicle has been able to cross the river to the Ahenfoasie community due to the deplorable condition of the wooden bridge on the river”, he stated, saying that was denying the people of the required development.
Mr Antwi-Agyei said “we aim at opening up the Ahenfoasie community to pave the way for individuals who have procured building plots there to develop them”.
Mr Moses Damoah, a resident who welcomed the execution of the project with excitement told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) it was very dear to the heart of the residents.
The MCE also stressed the need to put the Sunyani Masom Masom Market into good shape to enhance buying and selling and create conducive environment for traders and buyers.
Mr Antwi-Agyei indicated that on completion, the market project would boost economic activities and thereby spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.
Madam Comfort Bonsu, the leader of the sandal traders at the market urged the traders to cooperate with the contractors to enable them to complete the projects on time.
