Duayaw-Nkwanta (Ahafo) April 15, GNA – Reverend Dr Solomon Bruce, the Superintendent Minister, and Synod Secretary of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese says the nation has failed in moulding the youth in a responsive and courteous manner.
He said the growing indiscipline and unruly behaviours of the youth was an example set by the adults in society, influencing them badly, saying the “unruly behaviour of young people is a direct reflection of what the adults and our leaders have instilled in them”.
Rev. Dr Bruce said this in an interview with the media on the side-lines of the 46th Annual Synod of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese held at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region on the theme: “Discipleship: Growing into Christian maturity”.
It was attended diocesan executives, various Standing Committees, Ministers of God and their wives, and other church members of the diocese.
Rev. Dr Bruce expressed worry about the unacceptable growing trend where some politicians, traditional authorities and affluent people aided the youth to engage in illegal mining activities and causing extensive destruction to natural resources.
“The active involvement of adults in illegal mining activities is a prime example of how the youth are influenced by their actions,” he cited, saying “the youth do not have money and resources to acquire excavators and mining equipment to engage in illegal mining”.
That is an indication that they are being aided or supported by some chiefs, politicians, and wealthy people in society.
Rev Bruce stated that, “indiscipline begins in the home” and urged parents to take the responsibility and bring up their children in a responsive manner for them to grow to become responsible adults.
“The consequences of the actions of the adults ultimately affect the country. What goes round comes round, but in a worst state,” the Reverend Minister admonished.
There is therefore the need for adults and people in leadership positions, to live exemplary lives for the young people to emulate, saying, “every bad adult gives birth to a bad child”.
Rev. Bruce regretted that truth telling was scarce nowadays, adding that was partly responsible for the growing level of indiscipline in the country, urging the adults to take responsibility for their actions and inactions, set a good example for the youth to follow.
