Dzita (VR), April 20, GNA-Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has urged chiefs and residents of Dzita in the Anloga district, to use the season of Easter to promote unity, peace and reconciliation to enable smooth development of the area.
He said commitment to peace and unity among others was the only way the residents and the stakeholders could come together with a common goal to achieve the common objective of development of the communities.
Mr Gunu, who was the Guest of Honour, during this year’s Dzita Easter Homecoming durbar held at Dzita L.A school premises, urged chiefs to prioritise unity and use the festive season for better collaboration for the development of the communities to benefit all.
“Easter marks the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and it is time our people get united and use the season to correct the wrongs for progress,” he said.
Mr Gunu said that the Easter festival, which was celebrated with pride, promoted the high culture heritage of Anloland and urged the stakeholders, chiefs and elders to inculcate the traditions in the next generation to maintain the legacy of the rich culture and histories of the communities.
He pledged that the government would do everything possible within its powers to solve the numerous challenges within the communities which include water crises, roads, infrastructure, agriculture, education among others to mitigate the unemployment rate among youths to build a stronger future.
“Festivals are for development and progress, and government is committed to helping every community to development, especially in creating sustainable job for the youth, Dzita must rise.”
Togbi Sri III, the ‘Awoamefia’ and Overlord of ‘Anlo Dukor’ (Anlo State), who was the Special Guest of honour, during the durbar, commended chiefs and people of Dzita for organising such a successful festival celebration which demonstrated and promoted culture, peace and unity.
He charged the government to honour the hope and courage bestowed on them by the public and extend development project to the communities within the areas for all to benefit from the national cake to avoid the criticism of neglect and rejection, among others.
Mr Alex Segbefia, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, who also witnessed the occasion and delivered speech on behalf of the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, said government has noticed the persistent tidal waves and coastal erosion in the area and making drastic measures to address the challenges.
He said the government is committed to addressing the pressing challenges and would construct a robust sea defense system along the coast of the region to prevent further ravages from the sea.
The durbar which was highly attended by some dignitaries such as Togbi Hatsu III and Togbi Sarbah IV of Dzita, Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Anloga, chiefs, assembly members and others also showcased a vibrant cultural displays by drummer troupes and heartfelt speeches that inspired and strengthen the bond of togetherness and progress.
The 2025 Dzita Easter Homecoming festival was on the theme,” Dzita Rising: Honouring Our Legacy, Building a stronger Future.”
