Kumasi, April 16, GNA – The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a warning to all persons trading in the middle of dual carriage lanes in Kumasi to get off those spots.
Mr Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, the KMA Mayor, who gave the directive said, “as early as possible, anybody doing any trading activity in the middle of any dual carriage lane in Kumasi to get off before we get there”.
From Wednesday, April 16, 2025, I do not want to see anybody selling in the middle of our roads, especially those in the middle of dual carriages”, he warned.
Briefing the media on Monday evening, he indicated that Kumasi could not continue to be left on its auto-pilot life.
Again, he has asked that those traders with erected poles on tyre rims on asphalted roads within the Central Business District (CBD) are to take them out within two weeks.
The authorities, he cautioned, would not be lenient with anyone found with those metal stuff, adding that, such things would be given to scrap dealers free of charge upon chance.
“We will come at night, and every metallic object that we see in any street of Adum, we get rid of it and we give it to scrap dealers for charity”.
Mr Boadi Agyemang on stray cattle causing nuisance in streets of KMA said that was unacceptable.
He said, “All cattle owners who allow cattle to stray into the KMA territories be rest assured that from the month of May, those cattle will be killed and given to the Kumasi Central Prison to feed inmates.
Especially the areas from the Kumasi International Airport leading to Manhyia, I cannot sit here and let visitors get to this beautiful Airport and when they are driving to Manhyia all that they encounter is cattle faeces, this is unacceptable”, bemoaned.
He said the KMA was instituting programmes to help sanitize and instil discipline in the city.
These include beginning Wednesday 17th April 2025, the gradual clearing of Asafo Labour towards the Asafo Interchange where filth has engulfed portions of the shoulders of the road.
Again, the Assembly will work from the Amakom Roundabout towards WAEC area to Manhyia and desilt all choked gutters around.
Later, the team will move to clear the KATH route towards the Zoo potions and Mbrom.
Mr Boadi Agyemang indicated per a By-law within KMA, cars above five tonnes were not allowed to load and off-load and business owners in the CBD must get ready to have that law fully complied with.
According to him, very soon it would be required of business owners that every car that was of tonnage above three will not be allowed to park at any part of the CBD.
They will only be allowed to load and offload only between the hours of 7:PM and 7:AM to ensure free vehicle movements during the trading hours.
