Keta Central, (V/R), April 17, GNA – The people of Keta Central have officially begun their activities for this year’s Easter Homecoming Festival, with a strong focus on community development, tourism promotion, and youth engagement.
While some pre-festival events were held earlier, the main programme commenced on Wednesday with a health awareness campaign at the Keta Market.
The outreach provided over 300 market traders and residents with the opportunity to renew their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) memberships.
Attendees also benefited from key wellness educations and voluntary HIV/AIDS testing.
Later in the day, a welcome socialisation event was held at the Keta Lorry Station, where returning natives were warmly received with a vibrant display of traditional Borborbor music and dance by the Mawumenyo Borborbor Group.
On Thursday, the semi-finals of the Easter Football Gala will take place at London Park featuring top-performing teams from earlier rounds, including Fort FC, NMTC, Lords Gym FC, and Dreams FC, who will battle for a place in Sunday’s grand finale.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Attipoe Nutefe, Chair of the Planning Committee, emphasised the festival’s broader goals.
“We aim to use this celebration not just for entertainment and fundraising, but also as a platform to promote education, that’s why on Friday, we will organise a quiz competition among six basic schools, including Keta E.P. Basic School, Keta A.M.E, Keta R.C. Mixed, and Adzido M/A Basic Schools at the Keta AME Zion School premises.
“We believe this will inspire our children to take their studies more seriously as we engage them in the festival,”
The festival’s highlight, a grand durbar of chiefs and dignitaries, is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, bringing together traditional leaders, community members, and visitors to celebrate the town’s cultural heritage and provide a platform for key stakeholders to dialogue on the town’s transformation.
The festival will wrap up with the final match of the football gala on Sunday afternoon, followed by a beach picnic at Tent Village on Easter Monday, April 21.
This Beach picnic, they believed, would be a platform for participants to appreciate the beautiful golden sandy beaches of Keta with the various fun games to be held among churches and social groups in the town.
Some residents who spoke to the GNA during the health awareness session in the market expressed hope that the festival would achieve its intended objectives of fostering community unity, promote tourism, and support educational development.
This year’s festival is themed, “Uniting for Patriotism: A Roadmap to Keta’s Transformation.” aimed at raising funds to procure event logistics, such as canopies and chairs, to promote internally generated funds for the community.
