“GRIDCO technical issues causing power outages, low voltage in Volta, Oti”

Ho (V/R), April 19, GNA – The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has explained that the recent spate of power outages and low voltage being experienced in the Volta and Oti Regions is due to technical challenges.

The challenges occur particularly during peak hours between 1900hours and 2200hours, and the ECG says technical issues, especially at the Asiekpe Bulk Supply Point (BSP) operated by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) are causing the problems.

In an official statement issued by the management of ECG led by Ms. Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, the Volta Regional General Manager, the company assured residents that the challenges are being addressed, and normal power supply will be restored once the issues at the Asiekpe BSP are resolved.

“We wish to assure our cherished customers that once the technical challenges are rectified by GRIDCo, power supply will be stabilized,” the statement read.

The ECG encouraged customers experiencing faults or further issues to reach out to their respective district offices for updates and support.

“Customers are advised to contact their respective district offices for further information and to report all faults for prompt attention,” it added.

The company also apologized for the inconvenience caused to customers, emphasising its commitment to ensuring reliable electricity supply across the two regions.

The clarification follows a directive from the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, who recently paid an unannounced visit to both ECG and GRIDCo offices.

During the visit, he urged the two institutions to jointly address the public on the reasons behind the persistent power disruptions affecting residents and businesses.

The Regional Minister emphasised the importance of transparency and timely communication, noting that power instability was affecting the local economy and creating discomfort for households.

The ECG reiterated its readiness to cooperate with GRIDCo and all stakeholders to ensure that power supply challenges in the region are quickly resolved and do not recur.
