Yamfo, (Ahafo), April 11, GNA – The Ultimate Women Foundation on Friday called on the police administration to be expeditious in their investigations on the disturbances which happened at Yamfo in the constituency.
It said unbiased investigations were required to bring offenders to book and to serve justice to the deceased and the bereaved family.
The foundation seeks to encourage and motivate indigenous and vulnerable women and girls to know their worth and to empower and well-position them to contribute to the development of their communities and the larger society as well as champions the rights of vulnerable people.
“Our preliminary checks show that there are more into that disturbance”, Dr Freda Prempeh, the Founder of the Foundation told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Yamfo in the Tano North Municipality of the Region, and appealed to the Inspector General of Police to ensure that investigations were thoroughly conducted into the incident.
The uproar erupted in the mining town on April 4, 2025, when some irate youth besieged the police station and attempted to set the station ablaze, however, the military arrived timely to control the situation. However, the security operatives were left with no other option than to fire intermittent warning shots to disperse the irate youth who had besieged the Yamfo police station.
The irate youth took the after the local personnel swooped an Indian hemp smoking and peddling joint in the area, arrested and allegedly subjected a suspect (young man) into severe beatings who later died at the Yamfo Health Center.
Dr Prempeh, also the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, expressed her sympathy to the deceased family and friends, and urged the youth of the town to remain calm.
However, the former MP condemned the violent conduct of the angry youth who besieged the police station, describing that lawlessness as unacceptable.
“We can’t take the law into our own hands and destroy state properties,” Dr Prempeh stated and advised the youth in the area to always exercise restraint, saying “Ghana is not a lawless country that we can choose to do what we like”.
