Sunyani, (Bono), April 10, GNA – Madam Fati Kine Lam, the newly appointed Bono Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has advised the general public to refrain from buildings on water ways and flood-prone areas to prevent flooding.

She also called for collaboration between the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) for effective disaster control, prevention and management in the region.

She emphasised that the role of the various MDAs in controlling flooding, fire outbreaks and other disasters remained unparalleled.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Madam Lam said disaster management remained a collective responsibility, saying the MDAs ought to collaborate effectively and come out with realistic strategies to stem recurring fire outbreaks, flooding and road crashes.

“We must all come together and take initiatives to prevent disaster and protect lives and properties and save the public purse as well”, she stated.

Madam Lam congratulated the various Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region for their confirmation, saying the NADMO expected them to work hard to help prevent disasters being natural or artificial.

She said regular clean up exercises as well as tree planting remained essential to preventing natural disasters and urged the MDAs to embark on regular risks identification outreaches in local communities and neighbourhoods to enhance informed decision-making.

Madam Lam said risk assessment preparedness remained essential in preventing man-made disasters, and urged the MDAs to embrace it.
