Akrofu Traditional Council raises alarm over impostors claiming chieftaincy titles

Akrofu (V/R), April 30, GNA – The Akrofu Traditional Council in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region has raised serious concerns over what it describes as a growing threat to peace and security in the area.

The alarm followed attempts by certain individuals to falsely present themselves as traditional leaders.

In a press statement dated April 28, 2025 and signed by Mamaga Akua Sabea Nyabor VII, Paramount Queenmother and Acting President of the Council, the Traditional Authority said some individuals are illegally parading themselves with self-assigned titles such as “Acting Paramount Chief,” “Paramount Queenmother,” “Fiator,” and “Afetorfia”—positions which, according to the Council, are either already occupied or do not exist under Akrofu’s customary practices.

“We wish to inform the general public that none of these titles are vacant, nor does the title ‘Afetorfia’ exist in the Akrofu Traditional Area,” the statement clarified.

The Council specifically named Kennedy Kwesi Agbotse, a businessman, who has been presenting himself as Togbe Agbo Kwesi II, Acting Paramount Chief of Akrofu, and Victor Atefoe, a teacher at Kpando Senior High School, who appeared at public events as Acting Afetorfia Afefoe of Akrofu Xeviwofe.

It also cited Ahingble Kodzo, a farmer using the title Fiator of Akrofu, and Eunice Atefoe, claiming to be Acting Mamaga Nyuietor II, Paramount Queen Mother of Akrofu—all of whom, the Council stressed, are not recognized by Akrofu’s legitimate traditional structures.

“The public is hereby warned not to recognize or engage with these individuals, as they are not known to the customs, laws, or authority of the Akrofu Traditional Area,” Mamaga Nyabor said.

The Traditional Council cautioned institutions such as event organizers, government agencies, religious bodies, political parties, and diplomatic missions to refrain from acknowledging or offering platforms to these impostors.

The Council reaffirmed that only two stools exist in the Akrofu Traditional Area—the Foli Stool of Akrofu Xeviwofe (Paramount Stool) and the Koku Duah or Dzanku Stool of Akrofu Agorve (Divisional Stool)—both of which are currently occupied along with their respective queen mothers.

“We reaffirm that Togbega Komla Foli X is the only legitimate Paramount Chief of Akrofu, duly installed, and Mamaga Akua Sabea Nyabor VII is the Paramount Queen Mother,” the statement said.

The Council further expressed concern that some individuals—allegedly including diplomats and retired high-ranking public servants—are backing the impostors, thereby destabilizing peace in the area for personal gain.

“Such actions are criminal and will not be tolerated. We urge these individuals to desist immediately or face serious consequences,” the release warned.

Additionally, the Council urged media outlets to verify all historical or traditional content related to Akrofu before publication, emphasising that recent publications contained inaccuracies and misleading narratives.

“We call on such platforms to immediately remove any false stories about Akrofu from their portals,” Mamaga Nyabor said.

The Akrofu Traditional Council is also calling on the security services to remain vigilant and act swiftly to prevent any escalation of conflict, especially as certain individuals may be using the chieftaincy confusion as a front for financial gain.
