Koforidua (E/R), March 18, GNA – Mrs Irina Ofei, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Director of Health Services, has urgently called on the government to address severe challenges facing the healthcare system in the area.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Regional Minister in Koforidua, Mrs Ofei emphasised that the lack of adequate human resources, water shortages, insufficient staff accommodation, and a lack of transport were significantly hindering the delivery of quality healthcare services in the municipality.
She noted that these issues were causing serious setbacks in the effectiveness of healthcare delivery, with the situation at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital being particularly dire due to the acute water shortage.
She further called for the completion of abandoned health infrastructure projects in the area and proposed the establishment of a new hospital in Klo-Agogo, aimed at bringing healthcare delivery closer to community members and their surrounding areas.
The Health Director urged traditional leaders and other local Authorities to release land for the proposed facility, ensuring that the community’s healthcare needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, the Eastern Regional Minister, acknowledged the importance of effective healthcare delivery in the region.
She highlighted that ensuring timely and accessible healthcare could significantly reduce mortality rates and improve overall health outcomes.
Mrs. Awatey assured the Municipal Health Directorate of the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and addressing their needs.
“The NDC government remains committed to ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to all citizens, regardless of location,” she stated.
