Tema, March 13, GNA – Some assembly members in Tema have commended the government for allocating funds to support their work in the various electoral areas.

They said that the financial support would help address numerous challenges and improve development in their communities.

They told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in reaction to the announcement of the allocation of GH₵ 100 million by the government to support the assembly members.

They noted that the move would enable them to attend to immediate problems, complete stalled projects, and initiate new ones that will benefit residents.

They added that many communities face challenges such as poor roads, inadequate sanitation facilities, and limited social amenities, which require financial resources to address.

Mr. Charles Amos, Assemblyman for Padmore Electoral Area, Tema Community One, said the funds would also help in promoting community engagement and responding to the needs of the people they serve.

“This funding is a great relief because many of us have been struggling to address pressing issues in our communities due to financial constraints, and with this support, we can now work on improving roads, sanitation, and other key areas,” he stated.

Mr. Godsway Dzene, Assemblyman for Ashiboi Electoral Area, Tema Community One, noted that the government’s support came timely, saying that the funds would empower local leaders to make meaningful contributions to national development.

“It’s a good start, the burden that is on us, everybody will be knocking at your door for financial support and other things you have to be doing in your electoral area; some of the things, if you want to wait for the assembly, have to go through processes, so when you have some cash on you, you can solve the problem and deal with the assembly later,” he stated.

Mr. Isaac Newton Tetteh, assemblyman for the Nmlitsakpo Electoral Area in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, expressed his appreciation to the president for the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward addressing some of the pressing challenges facing their communities.

He emphasised that the move would bring the much-needed development, improve infrastructure, and enhance the overall well-being of residents, adding that such interventions were crucial in bridging the development gap and ensuring that essential services reach the people at the grassroots level.
