Supreso (E/R), March 17, GNA – The leadership of the Supreso Epicenter in the Eastern Region has assured The Hunger Project (THP) – Ghana, of a well-structured system in place to continue the activities of the Epicenter as it becomes self-reliant.
The Supreso Epicenter in the Suhum Municipality has become self-reliant after 14 years of dedicated mentorship by THP-Ghana.
Mr Benjamin Odonkor, the Secretary at the Supreso Epicenter at a celebration, said the leadership had developed a sustainability plan and democratic system, for the center to govern their decision making and electoral processes.
He explained that the intervention of THP-Ghana during the mentorship had equipped women and the youth with knowledge and skills in financing and trade under a micro-finance programme called the Epicenter Cooperative Livelihood Improvement Society (EPICLIS).
Through THP-Ghana, they were able to establish a strong partnership with the Suhum Municipal Assembly and its departments such as the Food and Agriculture, Community Development and Social Welfare, Education, and the Health Service, he said.
He said these departments provided them with technical support in training workshops, and community education to help improve their living standard.
Mrs Agatha Quayson, the Country Lead of The Hunger Project – Ghana congratulated the Chief of Supreso and the leadership of the Epicenter for the achievement.
She stated that the Epicenter’s strategy was to change the mindset of people from ‘Can’t Do to Can Do’’ and works at improving lives by empowering them to overcome their hunger and poverty.
THP’s empowerment programmes addressed several challenges including access to healthcare, education, food security, gender equality, livelihood and access to finance.
She entreated the leadership of the Epicenter to keep a good maintenance culture at the center to ensure that the efforts and resources invested there do not go waste.
The Leadership of the Epicenter were presented with certificates of achievement.
Madam Patricia Osei Amponsah, the Project Officer of the Supreso Epicenter said 10 cluster of communities formed the Epicenter and it consisted of a health facility, nurse’s quarters, computer laboratory, vocational training center, conference hall, and a bank.
The beneficiary communities were Obotumpan, Ampedwee, Koko Junction, Dade Mantse, Apeseh, Abiteh , Asarekrom, Adidiso, Supreso number one, and Supreso number two.
The self-reliance celebration was climaxed with a drama, chorography and fashion show.
The fashion show was presented by female youth into dressmaking learning sponsored by The Hunger Project at the Epicenter’s vocational training center.
