Asukawkaw (O/R), March 14, GNA – A team of brave rescuers have successfully freed a trailer driver and his mate from the wreckage of their vehicle after an accident at Asukawkaw in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region

The ordeal, which lasted for five grueling hours, began when the trailer, carrying assorted drinks from Accra to Dambai, swerved to avoid a tricycle with passengers and crashed into a gutter.

Personnel from the Emergency Services rushed to the scene and with assistance of rescuers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Police Service and the National Ambulance Service (NAS), the team worked tirelessly to extricate the trapped men.

Despite the challenges posed by twisted metal and debris, the rescuers persevered, utilising specialised equipment and techniques to free the driver and his mate.

After five long hours, the rescuers finally succeeded in freeing the two men, who were then rushed to Worawora Government Hospital for medical attention.

Mr. Mark Oduro, the Assembly member of the Electoral Area told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the driver and his mate were conscious and able to communicate with rescuers throughout the ordeal.

He said the successful rescue operation was met with relief and gratitude from many road users, who used the road segment at the time of the incident, as well as from the community at large.

The driver and his mate (names withheld) are currently receiving medical attention, and their condition is reported to be stable.
