Accra, March 16, GNA – The Ghana National Association of Queen Mothers has commended President Mahama for providing sanitary pads to female students.
The initiative, which allocates GHS292.4 million for the distribution of sanitary pads, has been hailed as a significant step toward achieving menstrual equity and ensuring uninterrupted education for girls.
During a special meeting with Mrs. Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, the Founder of the Association, Nana Adwoa Ankyaa Awindor, Development Queen of Afigyi-Kwabre District, expressed profound gratitude for the government’s commitment to addressing the challenge of accessing menstrual hygiene products for young females.
She emphasised the importance of involving traditional leaders and community-based organisations in the distribution process to ensure transparency and inclusivity.
“We strongly propose the active involvement of traditional leaders, parents, and girls’ education officers in the communities to support this process due to our presence at the grassroots level, our influence in communities,” she said.
She also assured the Minister of the Association’s unwavering support and collaboration in advancing shared goals for national development, particularly in empowering local communities and positioning Ghana as a global cultural hub.
“ The meeting underscored the importance of unity and collective action in addressing societal challenges and fostering sustainable progress and engagement with adolescent girls place us in a unique position to monitor and facilitate this initiative for maximum impact,” she said.
The Founder also highlighted the broader implications of the initiative, saying it aligned with the collective efforts of the Queen Mothers to champion causes that protected and empowered vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
She said the organisation would work closely with the government to sustain the initiative and national development.
She also praised Mrs. Dzifa Gomashie’s leadership, expressing confidence that Ghana’s rich traditions, arts, and culture would continue to thrive, empowering local communities and positioning the country as a global cultural hub.
