Kumasi, March 20, GNA – The Old Tafo Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a civic challenge for selected Junior High Schools in the Municipality.

The event, which was put together in collaboration with the Municipal Education Directorate, formed part of activities marking Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary in the Municipality.

The initiative sought to enhance civic knowledge among students and foster a sense of national pride through education about Ghana’s history, constitution, and contemporary issues.

It was designed to engage students in an intellectually stimulating competition, where they were quizzed on various topics relevant to civic education.

It also aimed to promote a deeper understanding of civic responsibilities and the importance of active citizenship among young people.

Rockanje Presbyterian Junior High School emerged winners of the contest followed by Pankrono R/C Model Junior High School, Darul-Faizeen Islamic Junior High School and Old Tafo M/A “A” Junior High School in that order.

The impressive performances by all participating schools underscored the importance of civic education in shaping informed and responsible citizens.

Mr. Suraka Saani, the Municipal Director of NCCE, said the exercise effectively engaged students in learning about their country’s history and current affairs, while fostering a spirit of competition and camaraderie among schools.

He said the initiative reflected the commitment of public sector institutions such as NCCE and GES to enhance civic education and empower the youth to become active participants in shaping the future of Ghana.

The Municipal Director underscored the importance of regular civic education activities and competitions to continuously engage students.

Such engagements, he noted, required partnerships with private organisations for resource mobilisation, adding that it was also imperative to organise workshops for stakeholders to deepen their understanding of civic issues.
