Aburi (E/R), March 16, GNA – The Eastern Regional Road Safety Authority in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority (NRAS) in Accra, MTTD Eastern Regional Command, Glico and Donewell Insurance Companies Ltd, carry out a road check exercise in Akuapem South Municipal precisely.

Earlier in the week, the team embarked on similar exercises in Akwatia, Kade and Mamfe in Akuapem North. The exercise was to educate motorist and pedestrians and check irregularities on motor-vehicles that are likely to lead to carnages on the road.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency the Assistant Road Planning Officer, James Agyekum of National Road Safety Authority in the Eastern Region, Koforidua, said the exercise was to remedy situations that may lead to accidents on the road.

Mr Agyekum noted that vehicles with unprescribed lumps were taken off their vehicles explaining that, Regulation 65 of the L.I. 2180/2012, specified the kind of lumps required to be fixed on any vehicle, saying, the team he said had ensured that those unprescribed lumps were immediately taken off.

He explained that these headlights with piecing rays did not originally come with the vehicles and that at night, these lamps could easily blind an oncoming motor driver and that may cause an accident.

The Head of NRSA in Koforidua Nana Akua Ansaah urged the public to disabuse their minds that the exercise was a nine-day-wonder, “this is going to be a routine and on periodic basis.”
