Wa, (UW/R), March 18, GNA – Four officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) accused of involvement in the murder of one Patrick Banoebuuri at Naro in Nadowli-Kaleo District have been handed over to the Upper West Regional GIS Command to face administrative discipline.
They are Senior Inspector Adjei Boadi Philip, aged 36; AICO II Abdulai Rawuf Abubakar, aged 22; AICO II Nkrumah Alex, aged 33; and AICO II Philip Oppong, aged 28 all stationed at Nadowli-Kaleo District.
Two other suspects in the case, Pogee Antaa Julius, aged 38, a Unit Committee Chairman of Naro Electoral Area and a farmer, and Logu Seidu, aged 49, a farmer based at Naro, have been admitted to a bail of GH¢20,000.00 with one surety each.
The decision by the Wa District Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship Maxwell Maxibrian Titriku was to allow the police to conclude investigations.
The six suspects were expected to make their next appearance in court on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The accused persons were the subject of investigations in connection with the murder of Patrick Banoebuuri, a farmer from Piree-Kaangu in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, which occurred on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Immigration checkpoint at Naro.
Mr Saeed Abdul Shakur, Principal State Attorney in the Upper West Region and principal prosecutor of the case told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Wa that he expected that police would conclude investigations by 10th April 2025 and present the docket to his office for advice.
According to the facts of the case presented to the court, Patrick Banoebuuri, now deceased, allegedly stole 18 sheep on 6th March 2025 and was arrested by the members of the community.
A total of 14 out of the 18 alleged stolen sheep were retrieved and he was set free.
On 7th March 2025, Pogee Antaa Julius, the Unit Committee Chairman and Logu Seidu reportedly led a group from Naro to the deceased’s house at Piree-Kaangu and apprehended him for failing to produce the remaining four sheep.
He was handed over to suspects Senior Inspector Adjei Boadi Philip, AICO II Abdulai Rawuf Abubakar, AICO II Nkrumah Alex, and AICO II Philip Oppong who were on duty at the Ghana Immigration Checkpoint at Naro to be disciplined.
According to the facts, suspects Senior Inspector Adjei Boadi Philip, AICO II Abdulai Rawuf Abubakar, AICO II Nkrumah Alex, and AICO II Philip Oppong “received the deceased in good health and took him through ‘frog jump’ in the course of which the deceased died.”
