Accra, March 21, GNA – Mr Simon Asare, a sports writer at the Ghana News Agency, has been shortlisted for this year’s International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Sport Media Awards.
Mr Asare, who is a member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), was nominated for Best Colour Piece.
His shortlisted piece, “Saving the Game: A Clarion Call for Sports Associations to Sign Onto UN’s Sports or Climate Action Framework”, looked into how climate change affected sporting activities in Ghana.
The issue acquired significant attention in the sports media scene, particularly in Ghana, with stakeholders discussing ways to mitigate the destructive impact of climate change on the growth of Ghanaian sports.
If he successfully qualifies for the second phase, Mr Asare would be in contention for a podium finish during the awards ceremony to be held in Rabat, Morocco, from May 13-16, 2025.
It will be the first time the awards ceremony will be held in Africa, with journalists from all five continents set to be honoured for their work during the year of review.
On top of the winners, the ceremony will also unveil the Special Commendations for some of the highlighted works, regardless of their final position. GNA
