Accra, March 27, GNA – The National Council of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has appointed Mr Peter Martey Agbeko as the Chairman of a three-member Elections Committee to oversee the conduct of national and regional elections of the Association in June 2025.
A statement signed by Mr Kofi Yeboah, General Secretary of the Association, named the other members of the committee as Mrs Beatrice Asamani Savage, Director of Editorial at the Ghana News Agency (GNA), and Mr Kwaku Owusu Peprah, Channel Manager of Joy News.
The appointment, made in line with Article 43(b)(i) of the GJA Constitution 2004, mandates the National Council to appoint the Chairman and members of the Elections Committee to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
Mr Agbeko, a Public Relations and Media Consultant, brings extensive experience in GJA affairs, having previously served as Director of the Ghana International Press Centre (GIPC).
He also played a crucial role as acting Chairman of the Elections Committee in 2022, successfully managing a contentious election process.
Mrs Asamani Savage, with more than three decades of journalism experience, has a deep understanding of the workings of the Association. Similarly, Mr Owusu Peprah, the 2010 Journalist of the Year, has vast experience at both national and regional levels, having worked extensively across the country.
Elected executives of the GJA serve a three-year term, as stipulated by the Association’s constitution.
The executive body, comprising the President, Vice President, General Secretary, National Treasurer, Organising Secretary, and Regional Chairpersons, is responsible for leading the Association and advancing its objectives.

The elections, held every three years, provide an opportunity for members to choose their leaders in line with democratic principles. Over the years, these elections have played a crucial role in shaping the direction of the Association and strengthening press freedom and professional standards in Ghana.
The statement noted that further details regarding the elections would be communicated in due course.
