Accra, March 4, GNA- The Ghana Internet Safety Foundation (GISF) has in partnership with Praesidio Safeguarding UK working to strengthen digital parenting initiatives and combat Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and other online harms in Ghana.
According to GISF the collaboration marks a significant step in protecting children from the dangers of the digital world.
A statement issued in Accra by the Foundation said the two organisations were committed to ensuring that the digital spaces were safer for children in Ghana.
It said by combining GISF’s deep understanding of Ghana’s digital landscape with Praesidio Safeguarding’s global expertise, the collaboration aimed to equip parents, educators, and guardians with the necessary tools to create a safer online environment for children.
Mr Emmanuel Adinkrah, President and Founder of GISF, said the partnership was to make the internet a safer place for all Ghanaian children.
“The internet presents immense opportunities, but it also exposes children to risks such as cyberbullying, exploitation, and harmful content and through this partnership, we are committed to empowering Ghanaian families with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital space safely,” he said.
He said, “We look forward to impactful collaborations that will drive lasting change in child online safety. As digital threats evolve, GISF remains dedicated to fostering responsible internet use and advocating for policies that protect children online.”
On their part, the management of Praesidio Safeguarding UK recalled an encounter in Ghana during a recent visit which prompted such a partnership.
They said on their travel to Ghana last year, parents shared a common concern of being unequipped to help their kids navigate the digital world safely.
They said many did not know about privacy settings, age restrictions on social media, how to report or block harmful content, or how to start conversations with their children about online safety.
“That is why we are so excited to partner GISF as both organizations are proud affiliates of the WeProtect Global Alliance, we are joining forces to develop impactful webinars and training sessions for parents in English and local Ghanaian language, helping to bridge this knowledge gap and empower families with the tools they need for a safer online experience for children,” they said.
