Accra, Mar 19, GNA – The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has with immediate effect recalled Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte (Tetra Pak-250ml & Canned-330ml PĂ©tillante) over safety concerns.

Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte is an alcoholic beverage that comes in various flavours, which is on the Ghanaian market and advertised on social media.

The FDA in a statement issued and copied to the Ghana News Agency said that the operations of the importer of the products were in violation of Sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) as they are not duly registered by the FDA, making their sale and distribution illegal.

It said the products were unregistered, had deceptive and misleading packaging and size, exposing children to potential accidental alcohol ingestion and posing danger to their health and safety. It thus advised consumers not to purchase or consume these unregistered products.

Retailers and wholesalers must immediately cease distribution and sale of these products, and all stocks should be returned to the nearest outlets of Cave and Garden Ghana Limited and FDA’s offices nationwide, it added.

The statement said the importer had been sanctioned, and regulatory measures were being enforced. It urged the public to report any information regarding the sale of this product via its official communication channels on www.fdaghana.gov.gh as the FDA remained committed to protecting health and safety.
