The NCCE organised the quiz competition for basic schools in the municipality to mark the 68th Independence Anniversary celebration.
Six schools participated in the contest which was held at Duayaw-Nkwanta on the theme: “NCCE Independence Day Constitutional Quiz Competition” and centred on current affairs, Ghana’s history and the 1992 Constitution.
The Duayaw-Nkwanta Presbyterian ‘B’ JHS placed the second position, with the Roman Catholic JHS, placing third and the Municipal Assembly JHS, fourth, the Clyde Academy JHS, fifth and Prince of Peace JHS, sixth position.
For their prize, SESBEC JHS received some stationeries and a certificate, while the other competing schools had certificates of participation.
Mr Joseph Oduro Buabeng, the Tano Municipal Director of NCCE, explained that the competition served as a platform to “immortalize the rich history of Ghana’s Independence struggle” as well as instil the spirit of patriotism among school children.
“The event is more of celebrating our democratic values and educating young minds on the principles and ideals of the 1992 Constitution”, he stated, saying “it is more than an academic exercise”.
Mr Buabeng said, “As the school children immersed themselves in the 1992 Constitution and Ghana’s constitutional and Independence history, they not only honour the past, but also shape the future by embracing their roles in upholding democracy”.
He added that the event did not only foster national unity through non-rivalry competition, but also ensured that the spirit of independence continued to thrive in the hearts of the nation’s future leaders.
