By Augustine Agyapong

Duase, (Ahafo), March 11, GNA – The Asunafo North Municipal Cocoa Farmers Union in the Ahafo Region has inaugurated a four-unit teachers’ quarters for the Duase Municipal Assembly Primary School.

The union, with support from the Tony’s Chocolonely Foundation constructed the facility at a cost of GHC 500,000.

Speaking at a short ceremony held at Duase, Nana Emmanuel Sarpong, the President of the Union explained the facility was aimed at motivating teachers to accept postings to serve the cocoa growing community.

That would improve the standard of education in the area by enhancing the academic performance of school children.

Nana Sarpong regretted that many teachers refused accepting postings to serve in rural communities partly due to the lack of decent accommodation, saying the Duase School had more than 500 pupils with only three volunteer teachers assisting the school head.

He urged the community to take good care of the facility.

Mame Arko Ababio, the Child Labour, Gender and Community Development Officer of Tony’s Chocolonely Foundation, said she was optimistic that the facility would inspire teachers to accept postings to the community.

Mr Mohammed Haruna, the Member of Parliament for Asunafo North Constituency commended the union for the foresight, and gave an assurance to contribute his quota towards improving education and health infrastructure in the area.
