Assin South Health Directorate records zero maternal mortalities

Assin Nsueam (C/R), March 10, GNA – The Assin South District Health Directorate recorded zero maternal mortality for the 2023.

The impressive feat was announced during the directorate’s 2023/24 annual performance review meeting at Assin Nsueam.

The meeting brought together health officials, stakeholders and community leaders.

The theme for the meeting was: “Strengthening Outbreak Preparedness; the Importance of Surveillance, Coordination and Community Engagement.”

Mrs Susana Bill, Assin South District Director of Health noted that the achievement was as a result of the directorate’s commitment to providing quality maternal healthcare services in the district.

“We are thrilled to report that not a single maternal mortality was recorded in our district over the past year,” she said.

Mrs Bill pointed out that the Directorate implemented a range of interventions that was aimed at reducing maternal mortality, which included the training of healthcare workers, provision of emergency obstetric care and the promotion of antenatal health services.

She noted that the success chalked was a testament of hard work and dedication of health care workers who had worked tirelessly to ensure that pregnant women in the district received the best possible care.

This has been hailed as a breakthrough by stakeholders and community leaders who had praised them for their commitment to improving maternal health care in the district.

In addition, the district had not recorded any cholera case due to the numerous education in schools, market, institutions, lorry stations, churches on the need to observe good personal hygiene.
