Three suspects arrested over violent disturbances during Nsoatreman FC-Asante Kotoko match

Accra, Feb.4, GNA – The police have arrested three suspects in connection with violent disturbances that occurred during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.

The violent clash resulted in the death of one person.

The suspects, identified as Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

A statement issued and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs, said a search conducted in the room of the suspect, Agyemang Duah Owusu, led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police, had reached out to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC to express the Police Service’s condolences.

He assured both the bereaved family and the football club of a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the murder, the statement said.

A special team from the Criminal Investigation Department, Headquarters, had been deployed to support the Bono Regional Police Command in the ongoing investigations.
