Takoradi, Feb. 14, GNA – The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has warned residents against unauthorised excavation of hills within the Metropolis.
A statement issued by Management of the Assembly said it suspected clandestine collaboration among some leaders in the communities, landowners, contractors, and officials of the Assembly for these unauthorized excavations.
It said such activities contravened the Assembly’s bye-law on “Excavation of Gravel, Stone and Sand, 2017”, hence, cautioned those involved to stop.
According to the statement, the Assembly had set up a special task force to respond quickly to reports of unauthorized excavation works for action.
“The Assembly wishes to warn all those involved in the practice to cease since anyone arrested would be prosecuted,” it stated.
The Assembly appealed to the public to report any excavation works, including conveyance of gravels in any part of the Metropolis to the Metropolitan Coordinating Director through the Client Service Unit on 0312046371 or the Twin-City Connect Platform (tcc.stma.gov.gh) with live pictures and videos.
“The STMA counts on the support of the public to protect our environment and the landscape of Sekondi-Takoradi,” the statement noted.
