Ho, Feb. 14 GNA – Christians have been advised to use Valentine’s Day to extend the love of God to the vulnerable and the less privileged in society.
The Reverend Jean-Paul Agidi, Akim Oda District Pastor of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) said all activities in connection with the day should be christ centred.
Rev. Agidi gave the advice in an answer to a question by the Ghana News Agency, whether it is right for Christians to celebrate Valentine.
Valentine’s day is celebrated on the 14th of February every year.
Rev Agidi said the day could be celebrated by Christians as a family adding “what matters is it should be given a Christocentric meaning.”
Rev Agidi said love is the most precious thing that gave life and essence to marital relationships and urged Christian couples to do their possible best to keep the flame of their love for each other burning even after Valentine’s Day.
“The world made us believe that the day is synonymous with a day of spending on expensive gifts, extravagant lifestyles and sexual immorality,” he lamented.
Rev. Agidi urged the youth, especially Christians to celebrate the day devoid of all form’s sexual immorality.
“Valentine day should be an intimate time of personal reflection on the relationships we have developed with one another.
“We must be guided by mutual respect, prayer, scripture and above all love that transcends sexual gratification or satisfaction of the flesh and its immediate ramifications,” he advised.
