Cape Coast, Feb. 07, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama, has expressed gratitude to the chiefs and the people of the Central Region for their overwhelming support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 election.

During a thank you visit to the region on Thursday, President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on his campaign promises, including the revival of the Komenda sugar factory.

“I have asked the Minister of Trade to provide me with a status update of the Komenda Sugar Factory. We are determined to proceed and continue with the project so that the region will become the biggest producer of sugar in Ghana,” President Mahama said.

His tour was resounding, drawing a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, including traditional leaders, party executives and community members.

The electric atmosphere reached its peak with a thought-provoking drama performed by school pupils and arranged by the Afrimuda Foundation.

The drama highlighted the importance of tolerance, mutual respect and gender empowerment in driving national development.

Notably, the performance also acknowledged the Vice President’s significant contribution to the party’s victory, earning extensive applause from President Mahama himself.

The event demonstrated the strong sense of community and appreciation for leadership within the party.

The President also announced plans under the “big push” to construct the highway from Winneba Junction to Mankessim to Cape Coast in two phases, as well as roads from Yamoransa to Assin Fosu and Cape Coast to Twifo Praso.

These projects aim to ease commuting challenges and open up the areas for development.

Additionally, President Mahama expressed his commitment to completing the Anomabo Fisheries College, which was initiated by the late President John Evans Atta Mills but stalled after his administration left office.

The college, which is near completion, would offer diploma certificates and short training programmes for fishermen, operating under the University of Cape Coast.

Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang also thanked the people of the region for making the region a stronghold of the NDC, securing 18 parliamentary seats and more presidential votes.

The event was attended by traditional leaders, party executives, and community members.
