Sekondi (W/R), Feb. 18, GNA — Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has commended the Western Naval Command for its continuous efforts in protecting the country’s territorial waters.
He said the economic survival of the citizenry hinged on peace and security, hence, acknowledged the critical role played by the Command in protecting businesses and social activities linked to the sea and the country’s maritime domain.
He gave the commendation when he addressed officers of the Western Naval Command, at Sekondi, as part of his familiarisation tour of the various security services in the region.
Mr Nelson said: “We all know the economic survival of Ghanaians obviously hinges on security and the social protection being provided by government.
So, we thank you for consistently carrying out your mandates in such a way that all Ghanaians can have freedom and the assurance to go about with their daily activities without fear or anxiety.”
The Minister, however, said there were other significant areas of security that needed to be tackled to help guarantee absolute peace and security in the region and the country in general.

He also acknowledged the challenges facing the Command and promised to work closely with them to resolve the issues.
“Despite the challenges, I know you are up to the task, so let’s keep our eyes on the ball and continue to maintain security,” Mr Nelson added.
Commodore Emmanuel A. Kwafo, the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, assured the Regional Minister of their commitment to protecting the maritime environment for growth and development.

He also assured the Minister of their cooperation and solidarity as the Chairperson for the Regional Security Council to uphold peace and stability in the region.
The Minister is expected to visit other security commands including, the Police, Ghana Air Force, National Investigation Bureau, Second Infantry Battalion, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
