Cape Coast, Feb. 20, GNA – A swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Wednesday evening averted a catastrophic blaze at the Central Regional warehouse of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
The facility, which stores 2×25 aluminium cables for regional maintenance and expansion works, was saved from total destruction, thanks to the prompt action of the GNFS Regional Command.

Upon receiving a distress call at 1635 hours, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFOII) Merinda Mary Attigah-Mensah, the Regional Commander and her team quickly sprang into action at the outdoor stock yard which was engulfed in flames and spreading rapidly.
The firefighters swiftly called for reinforcement, and additional support arrived from the Cape Coast Metro Fire Station and a water tanker from Regional Headquarters to put out the inferno.

Although no casualties were reported, 60 bundles of 2×25mm aluminium cables were damaged in the blaze.
The GNFS is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
ACFOII Attigah-Mensah emphasised the importance of prioritising fire safety in every facility as the dry season lingered.

“This serves as a timely reminder for businesses and organisations to review their fire safety protocols and take proactive measures to prevent such incidents,” she said.
