Wenchi municipality records eight fire outbreaks in January-Fire Commander

Wenchi, (Bono), Jan. 27, GNA – The Divisional Officer Grade Two (DOII) Eric Boateng, the Wenchi Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has said the municipality has recorded eight fire outbreaks since the beginning of 2025.

DOII Boateng in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wenchi in the Bono Region said the outbreaks comprised of three domestic, two vehicular and three bushfires.

He advised farmers, palm wine tappers and hunters, to be cautious of the way they handled naked fires and urged everybody to ensure that all electrical appliances and gadgets were switched off before they left home for work.

He mentioned beekeeping, charcoal burning, group hunting and palm wine tapping as well as cigarette smoking and cattle grazing activities as some major factors contributing to bush fires in the municipality and advised farmers to build fire belts around their farms.

In another interview, Mr Yahaa Baro, the Wenchi Zonal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation also advised the public to refrain from keeping inflammable materials in their homes, shops and houses.

He said those objects easily catch fire and advised shop owners and market women to procure and install fire extinguishers in their workplaces too.
