Hohoe (V/R), Jan.17, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has been urged by residents of Hohoe in the Volta Region to nominate best candidates for the positions of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in his administration.
They expected nominees that would engage the citizenry as well as work to develop the infrastructure and economic statuses of their various Assemblies.
Some residents, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, said they wanted the MCE nominee for the Municipality to urgently tackle roads linking Hohoe to other communities.
Mr David Agbeko, a driver, said the the road had been a challenge over the years, especially with the Golokuati-Hohoe-Santrokofi stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road, which had not received adequate attention.
He expressed the hope that the next MCE would prioritise discussions about the road network.
Mr Agbeko also wanted the next MCE to ensure the security of residents in the Municipality to enable the people to do business day and night without fear of armed robbery attacks.
Mr Abdul Karim, a businessman, expected nominees to extensively engage their various traditional, religious and community leaders to understand their problems.
He said sometimes lack of engagement might result in a community project that did not align with the needs of the people.
Mr Karim also expected the President to be able to reshuffle and reprimand any MMDCE nominee that might not ensure peaceful coexistence in their respective jurisdiction.
Madam Alotey Victoria, a trader expected the President to nominate MMDCEs who would ensure that education, especially for the girlchild, was prioritised through the completion of classroom blocks and building of new ones.
She said the MMDCEs should also meet market women to see how they could help them with interventions to excel in their businesses.
As a trader who often visits Hohoe to trade, she said she would expect the next MCE to ensure that the market projects were all completed to enable market women get access to stores to trade.
