Aiyinasi (W/R), Jan15, GNA – President of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Mr Wepia Addo Awal Adugwuala has called on the government through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to help farmers to form cooperatives.

They should also support them with input credit, machinery services and market linkages to increase and sustain production.

He said the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana for example, had over one million members across the country producing different Agricultural produce who could beat down hunger and alleviate the economic hardships on Ghanaians.

Mr Awal Adugwuala was speaking to Ghana News Agency in an interview at Aiyinasi in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region said the farmer service centers that the government wants to establish should be allocated to farmer Cooperatives in the various Districts to manage and use them to increase production.

That he said would beat down hunger and alleviate the economic hardships on Ghanaians.

The President said more than 60 percent of the population was gainfully employed in Agriculture, hence the need for the government to redirect and focus on the sector for economic development.
