Koforidua, Jan. 03, GNA – Ms. Richlove Kyerewaah Yeboah, a Midwifery Officer at the Lying-in Ward of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua, has urged nursing mothers to embrace exclusive breastfeeding and adhere to essential postnatal care practices.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Ms. Yeboah emphasized the significance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, highlighting that it was crucial for infant health.

She explained that the delicate digestive systems of newborns were not equipped to handle solid foods, which could expose them to increased health risks.

Ms. Yeboah noted that breast milk provided the vital nutrients necessary for the optimal development of a baby’s brain and nervous system.

As of 0940hours on January 1, the hospital had recorded two deliveries—a boy and a girl.

Addressing the importance of postnatal care, she advised that mothers should make routine visits to the hospital, starting three days after delivery, followed by check-ups at seven days and six weeks post-delivery.

This practice is essential for preventing health complications for mothers after childbirth.
