Kadjebi (O/R), Jan 5, GNA – Superintendent Frank Nana Asomaning, the Kadjebi District Police Commander, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters to avoid forceful take-over of state property after the swearing-in of Mr John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s President on January 7.

He said such forceful take-overs of government offices and other property were likely to result in disturbance that would lead to anarchy in the district.

Supt. Asomaning said this during an emergency District Election Security Taskforce meeting with the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership at Kadjebi in the Oti Region on Saturday.

He said though the police were ready to provide security during and after the swearing-in, they could not succeed without the support of the political party leaders, hence the engagement.

Supt Asomaning, thus, charged the NDC and NPP leadership to advice their supporters to “desist from chasing people and forcefully taking over state properties and Offices”.

He appealed to the leadership and supporters to fact-check information before sharing in order not to create acrimony and confusion in the district.

Mr. Eric Kwadwo Apeadu, NDC Chairman for Akan Constituency, assured the Security Taskforce that the party would assist to maintain law and order.

He apologised for the post-election violence in the area and promised that it would not re-occur.

Mr. Abubakar Sedick, Akan NPP Financial Secretary, said: “We are ready to support to maintain peace and order in the district”.

“NDC and NPP are family, so peace will prevail”,  he aid.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the NCCE, Ghana National Fire Service, Immigration Service, Ambulance Service, and National Investigation Bureau, among others.

The Kadjebi District Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the DCE’s Residency and the Kadjebi District Assembly premises have been attacked by an angry mob believed to be of NDC stock after the December 7 polls.

Mr. Andrew Young, the Kadjebi District Statistician was assaulted during the melee at the District Assembly premises.
