Adako-Jachie (Ash), Jan 20, GNA – Mrs Philomena Owusu-Ansah, General Manager of Prefos Limited, an electrical engineering company based in Kumasi, has stressed the need for Ghana to focus attention on the production of solar energy systems in its energy mix.

She said it was time for Ghana to reduce its over-reliance on hydro and thermal energy and focus more attention on the development of solar systems to ensure sustainable energy production in the country.

Addressing the annual thanksgiving service of the company at Adako-Jachie in the Ejisu municipality, Mrs Owusu-Ansah, pointed out that, the company was committed to work closely with the government to expand solar power systems in the country.

According to her, sunlight was always available in almost all the seasons and the country could take advantage and store enough sun and convert it into energy to power industrial machines and domestic use.

“….so, in the event of the new government administration, we will present solar power proposals to see whether they can assist in the solar system in Ghana.

This is intended to help the nation to improve its solar energy mix and reduce the over-dependence on hydropower.

We can harvest more solar from the sun, install more panels both for commercial and home use in Ghana”, she explained.

She said stable power supply enhanced development, adding that Prefos Limited was ready to support the course of quality lighting systems across Ghana.

On skills training acquisition, Mrs Owusu-Ansah stressed the need for the government to equip technical and vocational training institutions to train the youth to acquire skills to help reduce the unemployment situation in the country.

She pointed out that most of the workers at Prefos, who assembled, installed and maintained streets lights in the country received skills training from the company.

Mrs Owusu-Ansah said the company aimed to, on a larger scale, support Africa’s development and industrialization agenda by providing modern, durable high quality electrical installation and civil engineering services.

The company used the 2025 annual thanksgiving and prayer event to usher themselves into the new year with praises and worship song ministrations from some renowned Ghanaian gospel musicians and preachers.
