Sege, Jan. 27, GNA – The GaDangme Council has expressed dissatisfaction over reports of recent attacks on the premises of Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, in Ada by some irate youth.
The Council noted that the invasion of the company’s warehouse and bungalows and subsequent acts of vandalism and theft were not only unlawful but also detrimental to the progress and development of GaDangme communities.
In a statement dated January 27, 2025, and signed by Mr Ayikoi Otoo, the President of the GaDangme Council, which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), it stated that the Council “unequivocally condemns this act of hooliganism and called on the relevant security agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the incident.”
The Council added that it was imperative that the perpetrators were brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate similar actions.
The GaDangme Council recognised the significant role that Electrochem Ghana Limited plays in Ghana’s economy, as well as the socio-economic development of Ada and its surrounding communities, particularly in the provision of jobs and fostering growth.
It added that such attacks undermined the Company’s ability to continue its operations and could jeopardise the livelihoods of many.
“We also urge all members of the community to remain calm and refrain from any retaliatory actions that may escalate tensions. The Council will continue to engage all stakeholders to ensure that peace and stability prevail in the area,” it said.
The Council also appealed to the government and security agencies to provide the necessary protection to the company and other businesses operating in the region, to allow them to carry out their activities in a peaceful and secure environment.
The GaDangme Council further disclosed that it remained committed to promoting development, peace, and harmony among the people and businesses and was poised to work together to build a thriving and united community.
