Benard Ahiafor receives admiration from institutions, others in Akatsi South

Akatsi (VR), Jan. 7, GNA – Congratulatory messages continues to pour in for Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Akatsi South who has been elected as the First Deputy Speaker of the Ninth Parliament.

The election of Mr Ahiafor, has received commendations on several social media platforms and institutions within his constituency as the 1st Deputy Speaker, following the official inauguration of the Ninth Parliament, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, January 7, at the Parliament House in Accra.

Mr Karim Ayaana Umar, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education, in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday indicated that Mr Ahiafor, the seasoned lawyer’s unflinching support to the education directorate remained a testament that he has more than what it takes to occupy the noble seat.

“We, in the Education Directorate, reflecting on your unflinching support to the education directorate, believe that you have more than what it takes to occupy the noble seat. It is our prayer that God gives you strength, good health, and wisdom to discharge your duties diligently,” the statement reads.

In a related development, Mr Isaac Kofi Attivor, the Akatsi South Communications Officer of the NDC on behalf of the party, has extended their heartfelt congratulatory message to Mr Ahiafor on his unanimous election.

“This remarkable achievement reflects Mr Ahiafor’s dedication, professionalism, and hard work both within and outside Parliament. His commitment to justice, equity, and development has not only brought honour to Akatsi South, but also highlighted the contributions of the Volta Region to Ghana’s democratic growth.”

Mr Attivor also expressed the party’s profound gratitude to the leadership at the National and Regional levels, as well as the leadership in Parliament, for recognising Mr Ahiafor’s competence.

“As a Constituency, we pledge our unwavering support to Mr Ahiafor as he assumes this new role. We are confident that his leadership will further enhance the effective functioning of Parliament and contribute to the collective progress of our nation,” he added.

There have also been congratulatory messages from individuals across the Akatsi South Constituency and beyond to the former Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee for the Eighth Parliament of the Republic.

In the December general elections, Mr Ahiafor, who is currently serving his fourth term appearance in Parliament, polled a total of 30,268 votes against his two other contestants, namely

Mr Mawuli Ocloo Egos of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Mr Dzameshie Donald Brown of the Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG).

He took over the Akatsi South seat on the ticket of the NDC during a Constituency by-election in 2013 when the then MP, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho became the Speaker of Parliament for the Sixth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
