Assembly members urged to confirm MMDCEs to be appointed

Sege, Jan 02, GNA— Nene Dameh Agbewornu II, Chief of Sege, has urged all assembly members to hasten the development of their communities by promptly confirming those the president will nominate as metropolitan, municipal, or district chief executives.

Nene Agbewornu also appealed to districts that were yet to vote for presiding members to do so as soon as possible, as it hinders the development of the districts and Ghana as a whole.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sege-Nakomkorpe, he noted that the politicisation of the elections of the leadership at the local government level was delaying the progress of the district assemblies.

He expressed disappointment in the failure of some district assemblies to elect presiding members despite several attempts, attributing it to the struggle for power and political interference.

“It is disappointing that even here at Ada West, we do not have a presiding member yet, even though they tried several times. Ada West District did not start like this,” he lamented.

He appealed to the assembly members to consider the development of their various electoral areas, the district, and the country to do the needful.

“Any MMDCE and presiding member that would be proposed to them, they should put aside politics and support by confirming the person as early as possible to avoid delay in the growth of their various MMDAs,” he urged.
