Accra, Dec 07, GNA – Voting is ongoing steadily in parts of the Amasaman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region after one hour of rain.

The rains which lasted between 12 pm to 1 pm, brought the voting process in most of the polling stations to a halt.

Mr Lionel Fred Afful, Presiding Officer,Transformer Oduman 2 polling station, told the Ghana News Agency that no voting material was destroyed during the rain.

“We had to pause for almost an hour because of the rain. We have now been able to put ourselves together to start again and we hope that the electorate who left will return to cast their votes,” he said .

As of 2 pm , 260 voters had successfully cast their votes out of the 943 votes expected at the Transformer Oduman 1 and 2 polling stations.

Mr Francis Nana Prempeh , Presiding Officer at the M/A Primary Manhean 1 polling station, called on the electorate who dispersed as a result of the down pour to return in their numbers.

He said the process had been slow after the rains and that 120 out of the 453 eligible voters at his polling stations had cast their vote as of 2:35 pm.

At the Great Rock Redeemer Church Manhean 1 and 2B polling stations, voting bounced back with long and winding queues after the rain.

Ms Blessing Amartey, Presiding Officer at the polling station, said 272 persons had voted out of the 1,026 votes expected as of 2:50 pm.

At the Saperman Primary polling stations A and B, voting is underway with a total of 707 votes cast as of 12 pm.

Polling station A has recorded 438 votes while station B recorded 269 votes.

The initial long queues observed earlier by the GNA have significantly reduced, with both stations operating in an orderly manner.

A small number of voters continue to arrive and cast their ballots unhampered.

Election officials at the polling station said the process remained orderly and peaceful, with no incidents of violence or disruption at both polling station.

The atmosphere remains calm as voting continues.
