Dzolo-Gborgame (V/R), Dec. 1, GNA – Mr. Jonathan Julius Kukah, the National Democratic Party (NDP) parliamentary candidate for Ho West Constituency, has called on constituents to support his bid for office, promising improved representation and sustainable development.
He emphasized the need to break the dominance of the two major political parties in the constituency, advocating for fresh leadership focused on practical solutions.
Mr. Kukah said this during the Ho West Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) debate organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) at Dzolo Gborgame.
The debate, part of the NCCE’s mission to promote constitutional governance and peaceful elections, provided an opportunity for parliamentary candidates to engage directly with constituents, present their manifestos, and answer questions.
Moderated by Mr. Israel Kpodo, Volta Regional PRO for the Complementary Education Agency, the event covered key issues such as education, employment, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Mr. Kukah outlined his vision to enhance education by improving the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. He proposed the establishment of community farms to support school feeding programmes and create job opportunities for the youth.
“These farms will not only feed schools but also serve as an employment avenue for the youth, with surplus produce being branded and exported to larger markets,” he said. He further suggested involving visual arts students and interested youth in branding the farm produce to add value.
On healthcare, Mr. Kukah pledged to work with stakeholders to construct clinics and provide restrooms at markets to improve hygiene for traders.
He also committed to ensuring that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have access to disability-friendly school structures, timely disbursement of allowances, and doorstep National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) services.
Responding to concerns from teachers, students, and parents, Mr. Kukah promised to prioritize the fencing of schools and the completion of a community centre.
He also proposed the creation of farmer groups to receive training on the proper use of agrochemicals, ensuring increased crop production.
“I urge chiefs to release land for the establishment of community farms,” he said, stressing the dual purpose of these farms in providing food security and employment.
The chairman of the IPDC, Evangelist Emmanuel Agbo, thanked attendees for their participation and emphasized the importance of peace before, during, and after the elections.
“There is only one Ghana to protect, and our democracy, backed by the constitution, allows for dialogue with candidates,” he stated.
He urged participants to ask relevant questions and avoid any behaviour that could incite conflict.
The event concluded with Mr. Kukah reaffirming his commitment to peace and urging his supporters to promote harmony.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rockson Gyasi, Ho West District Police Commander, assured attendees of adequate security during the elections and encouraged the public to report any activities that could threaten peace.
The dialogue was attended by various stakeholders, including Togbui Fiadzo VI of Dzolokpuita, Mr. Oral Robert Amenyo NCCE Deputy Regional Director, Mr. Emmanuel Agbo IPDC Chairman, Mr. Francis Foli President of Persons with Disabilities in the district, as well as teachers, students, and community members.
Meanwhile, the NDC and NPP candidates were notably absent from the event, leaving Mr. Kukah the sole participant to present his vision for Ho West Constituency.
