Accra, Dec 7, GNA – Polls have opened at the Gertrude Memorial School ‘A’ and ‘B’ for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
The exercise commenced at 0710 hours.
A total of 1,220 voters are expected to cast their ballots at the two voting centres, by close of polls at 1700 hours.
Electoral materials had already arrived at the polling centre as at the time the Ghana News Agency (GNA) got to the venue at 0500 hours.
Queues began to form as early as 0300 hours, the GNA was told, with the first voter being represented by a stone.
Numbers had also been issued to people who came in the wee hours of the day to vote to ensure peace and order.
Polling agents for the two major political parties – National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) began to arrive at the venue a few minutes after 0500 hours.
There was calm, law and order despite the absence of security personnel at the two centres as at the time polls opened at 0710 hours.
Twelve candidates are vying for the presidential slot in the 2024 General Election.
Four aspirants, including an Independent Candidate, are contesting the parliamentary seat in the Constituency.
They include incumbent Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Sarbah Lartey of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joshua Commey of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) and James Lamptey, an Independent Candidate.
It is the ninth successful election the country is undertaking since it returned to democratic governance in 1992.
