Assin Nsueam (C/R), Dec 01, GNA – The Assin South Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised a debate for Parliamentary Candidates (PC), in the constituency to state their developmental plan, policies and vision for the area.
However, only Rev John Ntim Fordjour, incumbent Member of Parliament and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate participated in the debate.
Mr Kofi Baidoo, Parliamentary Candidate (PC), of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Mr Joseph Kofi Damtse PC, an independent candidate failed to turn up.
The move was to afford the three candidates the opportunity to speak on developmental issues of concern, while outlining their visions and plans for the constituency.
Rev Ntim Fordjour took the opportunity to outline his achievements and future plans for the constituency, and highlighted his efforts in improving healthcare, education, job creation, infrastructure and many more to the people.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr George Briku, District Director of NCCE observed that the debate would enhance and give candidates the opportunity to explain their plans, address and clarify issues.
On the absence of the two candidates, he said invitations were sent to them in advance but failed to turn up, citing some reasons.
He further said the 1992 constitution, which is the supreme law of the land states that sovereignty resides in the people on whose behalf the powers of government are to be exercised.
Therefore, he said it behooved on candidates seeking political power to spell out what they had under their sleeves for the people they were seeking their mandate.
He admonished the audience to uphold peace, before and after elections and emphasised the importance of a peaceful electoral process for the development of the constituency and the nation as a whole.
In attendance was Ms Felicia Ntrakwah Amissah, District Chief Executive, Departmental Heads and high ranking members and supporters of the NPP.
