Accra, Dec. 08, GNA – The streets of Accra, Ghana’s capital, on Sunday witnessed a dramatic celebration by followers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following the main opposition party’s triumph in the 2024 General Election.
It was a wild jubilation of unimaginable magnitude as the supporters trooped to the party’s headquarters at Adabraka and principal streets in their numbers to revel in the party’s victory.
This followed the concession of defeat by the ruling New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearer and Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, barely 24 hours after the ninth elections under the Fourth Republic.
The NPP Flagbearer indicated that his decision to officially concede defeat was borne out of his commitment to the peace of the nation, while avoiding unnecessary tension.
Clad in the winning party’s green, black, red, and white colours, the NDC sympathisers could not help but engage in all manner of celebration to welcome the overwhelming victory.
The NDC has declared itself winners of the December 07presidential and parliamentary polls, insisting that its internal collation from the provisional results, prior to the official declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC), confirmed that assertion.
“From our collation, it is clear that Ghanaians have rejected the NPP.” Mr Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Director, emphasised.
Per its projection, the opposition NDC says it has won by 56.33 per cent of the total ballots cast in the presidential race, as against 41.35 per cent garnered by the NPP.
In the parliamentary elections, the party claims it has tentatively won 185 seats, two thirds majority in Parliament, so far from the 276 constituencies.
He applauded the electorate for voting massively for the party in the elections.
