Tamale, Nov 25, GNA – Some first-time youth voters in the Northern Region have attended a training on electoral processes to equip them with knowledge and tools to participate effectively in the upcoming general election.
The day’s training, held in Tamale, was also to educate participants on electoral offences.
It was organised by Youth Bridge Foundation, a non-government organisation in partnership with STAR Ghana Foundation and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Dr. Alexander Nimo Wiredu, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Specialist at Youth Bridge Foundation, speaking during the training, said it was important to build the capacity and knowledge of the youth to better appreciate their role in the political system.
He said: “When you expose the youth to the electoral process and also create their awareness in terms of their knowledge about the manifestos of the political parties, it helps them to make informed decisions.”
Mr. Hamza Sulemana, Youth Advisory Board Member at Youth Bridge Foundation, urged the youth to participate in the electoral processes to ensure that issues affecting them and society were brought to the fore.
He said: “As first-time voters, your involvement signals hope for brighter, more accountable and inclusive future for Ghana.”
Mr. Lucas Yiryel, the Northern Regional Director, Electoral Commission, commended the partners for the initiative and said it would help deepen the knowledge of first-time voters on the electoral processes.
Mr. Imoro Tahiru, Tamale Metropolitan Director, National Commission for Civic Education, encouraged the participants to focus on how to sustain the country’s democracy.
He cautioned them against misinformation and disinformation on social media, saying, “Social media is misleading everyone and as young people, do not share information on social media without verifying it.”
