Accra, Nov. 19, GNA – The Supreme Court has slated December 18, to deliver judgement in suit challenging the constitutionality of the anti-gay bill.
A suit was filed against the Speaker of Parliament following the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Act, also known as the anti-gay bill into law.
Ghana’s Parliament on February 28, 2024, passed the promotion of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill. The Bill is currently awaiting the Presidential assent.
At today’s hearing, the apex court presided over by Justice Lovelace Johnson, gave two days to the lawyers of Richard Sky (Plaintiff in the Matter) to amend their statement of case.
It further ordered the defendants to file their response by November 27, 2024.
The plaintiff went to court on the grounds that the Bill which was passed violated Article 108 of the 1992 Constitution.
The bill when assented by the President stipulates imposition of various jail term on people who engaged and promoted homosexual endeavours.
