NCCE engages political party youth activists at West Mamprusi on tolerance

Walewale (NE/R), Nov 19, GNA – The West Mamprusi Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), as part of its Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism project, has engaged political party youth activists in the area on tolerance.

It was to improve their knowledge of the culture of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and non-violence.

Topics discussed were the role of the youth in promoting peace, peaceful coexistence and inter-faith tolerance and identifying and countering misinformation and disinformation.

Mr Imoro Issahaku Thomas, West Mamprusi Municipal Director of NCCE, speaking during the event, urged the youth to be ambassadors of peace by preaching peace wherever they found themselves.

He urged them to desist from using inflammatory language during political rallies.

He encouraged them to verify anything they heard, read, or watched before sharing it so as not to engage in misinformation and disinformation.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Seth Akuamoah Agyekum, West Mamprusi Municipal Police Commander, who was a resource person, urged the youth to cherish the peace they enjoyed saying “If there is war in Ghana, we have no place to run to.”

Mr Fataw Sulemanan Nantomah an official of Asiribisi Development Initiative, an NGO operating in the area, urged the youth not to rely too much on politicians for their personal development, adding that they should endeavour to access alternative livelihoods to be independent from the influence of politicians.
