Israel kills Gaza commander of Palestinian Islamic Jihad

Tel Aviv/Gaza, Nov 10, (dpa/GNA) – The Israeli military says it has killed Mohammed Abu Sakheil, the military leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) paramilitary organization in the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Jihad confirmed Abu Sakheil’s death to dpa. The military said he was killed in an attack on a former school in the north of the Gaza Strip. His son and daughter, along with three other people, were also killed.

He had only taken up the post in May, after his predecessor was also killed by the Israeli military.

The PIJ is considered one of the most radical militant groups in the Middle East, and its fighters fire rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel. However, the organization is considered less powerful than Hamas.
