Accra, Nov. 6, GNA – The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), in collaboration with the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has introduced a new Master of Science programme in Customs management.
The new programme with the UCC School of Business will touch on the up-to-date Customs procedures, policies, laws, and regulations, among others, to address contemporary issues.
The new programme would create an advanced academic platform for staff to upgrade their knowledge in the fields of Customs administration and management.
Brigadier General Zibrim Bawah Ayorrogo, the Commissioner, Customs Division of GRA, said the Division had undergone extensive transformation to meet the modern demands of Customs operations.
Brig Gen Ayorrogo said the Customs Division over the years had put in place mechanisms to ensure professionalism in its operations to maximise full benefits and be efficient.
“We have developed Customs degree programmes to provide staff with the needed tools to excel in Customs administration,” he said.
He expressed the hope that the programme would equip participants with the expertise to manage Customs issues and their related interconnected trade relations.
“Let us renew our commitment to build the Division that leads to efficiency and competency and supports the country’s economic growth,” he said.
Professor John Gartchie Gatsi, Dean of the School of Business at UCC, said the new programme was developed with extensive relevant stakeholder consultations to be fit for purpose.
“The programme went through a series of quality assurances for fine-tuning and was later sent to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission for final approval from the board,” he said.
The Professor said the programme would be delivered through transactional and transformational modules to meet 21st century learning skills.
He said the forms would soon be out from November to December, while academic lessons start in January 2025.
A speech on behalf of Ms Julie Essiam, the Commissioner General, GRA, underscored the importance of continuous learning, saying “a learning organisation is an advancing organisation.”
She said the Authority was committed to creating opportunities for staff to grow and prosper, urging the staff to take advantage of the programme to upgrade their knowledge.
