Four parliamentary candidates boycott dialogue in Trobu constituency

Accra, Nov. 21, GNA- Four parliamentary candidates in the Trobu Constituency shunned a dialogue aimed at presenting their plans for the constituency ahead of the December 7 polls.

The candidates who failed to attend included Madam Gloria Owusu, New Patriotic Party, Mr. John Kofi Halm, National Democratic Congress, Mr. Francis Ansah Tawiah, All People’s Congress, and Mr. Olivre Gyepi-Garbrah, Liberal Party of Ghana.

The only candidates present were Mr. Safo Hammond Adu (CPP) and Nana Boateng Agyenim (Independent).

The dialogue, held at Asofa in the Ga North District, was organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to provide candidates with an opportunity to interact with constituents and share their plans for representing their interests in Parliament.

The initiative was part of NCCE’s efforts to promote democracy and help voters make informed decisions in the upcoming elections.

Madam Mabel Munufie, the NCCE Municipal Director for Ga North, expressed disappointment, noting that all four candidates had confirmed their attendance earlier that morning but failed to show up.

Nii Aflah Kakaban I, Chief of Tantra Hills, also voiced his dismay at their behaviour, stating that the absence of the candidates was a poor reflection of patriotism.

He highlighted the constituency’s lack of basic amenities such as roads, security, education, and sports facilities, and wished the candidates had been present to share their plans to address these challenges.

Meanwhile, the two candidates who attended were questioned on various issues, including education, youth unemployment, the growth of the informal sector, maternal and child health, mental health, and agriculture.
